Personal Interests

Outside the classroom, I explore who I am through riding horses, singing, and engaging in creative expression. I began equestrian training in Grade 10 and continue to learn with dedication and patience. Singing has been a lifelong outlet, a space for emotion, freedom, and connection. I believe that creativity is just as vital to growth as academics or service.

Equestrian Riding

The first time I was on a horse, I was just a year and a half old, sitting in the saddle on a quiet trail ride, long before I understood what riding even meant. Since then, I’ve done leisure rides throughout my childhood, but it wasn’t until a family trip to Bintan, years later, that something shifted. I rode a horse named Runny along the beach, and for the first time, I realized: this isn’t just something I love, this is something I want to pursue.

I began formal equestrian training in Grade 10, and it’s become one of the most grounding parts of my life. Riding has taught me patience, discipline, and what it means to truly work in partnership, even across species. Horses don’t speak, but they listen. They respond to energy, intention, and trust.

One moment I’ll never forget was with a horse named Lily. She bucked during a session, and I landed awkwardly across her neck. She could’ve thrown me off, but instead, she stood completely still, holding me steady until I calmed down and climbed back into the saddle. I later learned Lily had been in pain, with injuries in

her back and neck, and yet in that moment, she protected me before herself. It taught me more about empathy and instinct than words ever could.

Riding has never been just a sport for me. It’s where I feel most present, most connected, and most myself. It’s a lifelong relationship I’m only just beginning to fully understand.

Singing

I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. One of my earliest memories is performing “Let It Go” from Frozen, but it was artists like Ariana Grande who truly inspired me to keep going. Her ability to express deep emotion through music has always captivated me and motivated me to find my own voice.

As I grew, the places I lived and the people around me changed, but one constant remained: my love for singing. It’s more than a hobby; it’s where I process emotions, tell stories, and feel most grounded.

I’ve always been curious, trying out different sports and hobbies, but singing has been the one thread running through it all. It also connects me to my dad, who has a deep love for music. Even though the rest of my family doesn’t share the same passion for singing, music has always been a quiet bond between us, making this part of my life even more meaningful.

Theatre & The Performing Arts

I’ve been involved in theatre since Grade 2, and it’s remained one of the most consistent creative threads in my life. What began as a space to play and perform has grown into a space for inquiry, collaboration, and expression, which is why I’ve chosen to continue it at the Higher Level in the IB Diploma Programme.

As part of my IB Theatre journey, I’ll be attending ISTA TAPS Perspectives in Hong Kong, an immersive experience that brings together IB Theatre students from around the world to collaborate with professional artists. We’ll explore original theatre-making, world theatre traditions, and performance theory, connecting classroom learning with real-world creative practice.

Theatre has taught me how to listen deeply, take creative risks, and work with intention, on and off the stage. It’s where I’ve learned to hold complexity, lead with emotion, and understand stories that aren’t always my own.
